BMI Calculator FAQ

What is BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement that uses your height and weight to estimate whether you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. Formula: BMI = weight(kg) / height(m)ยฒ.

What are the BMI categories?

Underweight: below 18.5, Normal weight: 18.5โ€“24.9, Overweight: 25โ€“29.9, Obese Class I: 30โ€“34.9, Obese Class II: 35โ€“39.9, Obese Class III: 40 and above.

Is BMI accurate for everyone?

BMI is a useful screening tool but has limitations. It does not account for muscle mass, bone density, age, sex, or body composition. Athletes may have high BMI but low body fat.

Should I use metric or imperial units?

Our calculator uses metric units (kg for weight, cm for height). To convert: 1 pound = 0.453 kg, 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 foot = 30.48 cm.
